If You Didn’t Get Down During Spit It Out, Did You Even Slipknot, Bruh?

It’s been two days since Knotfest Los Angeles 2021 and my body is still sore. It shouldn’t be. I enjoyed the concert from the cushy comfort of Sec FLST9 Row C Seat 5, the premium sitting by the stage. Fuck. It sucks getting old.

When my husband asked me about my overall experience at the festival—I went alone, by the way—my answer to him was a solid 7/10 as the bands were great but the venue wasn’t. Even though it was my first time at the Banc of California Stadium I had high expectations for it, but at the end of the day the venue’s offenses—not gonna go into detail—were harmless and inconsequential, infuriating yes, but at least us Maggots were safe and had the chance of enjoying the show all night long.

Just like clockwork, Slipknot started their hour and a half set at 9:20pm on the glorious and cold Friday night of November 5th, 2021. That time and date will go down in my personal history as the moment part of my soul was given back to me after one year and eight months of pandemic paranoia; California’s covid craziness put my lifestyle on hold and took hostage part of my identity, who was I without the joy of freedom, of people? So here’s my vaccination card. Let’s fucking do this!

Slipknot gave us an amazing performance. We were their last stop in their 2021 US Tour (29 shows in seven weeks) but you would have thought we were their first, they all had so much energy and holy shit how do they do it!? I pray to god I have a fraction of their stamina when I hit my fifties and that I am still headbanging by then.

Their setlist consisted of their greatest hits plus their new single, The Chapeltown Rag, and even though I loved it all I was hoping they played some of my favorites, but I guess there will be another time to watch them perform in person the masterpiece that is Eyeless, Sulfur, Dead Memories, Custer, and Solway Firth. Also, did I mention that the concert was streamed live all over the world? I hope they end up releasing the pro-shot recording via download or dvd so I can add it to my Slipknot collection.

If I had to choose one moment as the most especial of the entire evening I would have to say it was when we all got down during Spit It Out – what a blast it was! When I realized what was going to happen I took out my phone and started recording. Duuude, I fucking did it, I am now proudly—and without any question or doubt—an Official Maggot!

Here’s to more music, more concerts, more culture, more arts, more people, more us! See you around.

In Love and Fear,

-Marath

P.S. If you would like to watch the full pro-shot live stream of the song Spit It Out, go here and enjoy it while it lasts ;)

[February 17, 2022 EDIT: Slipknot released today the official music video for their new single The Chapeltown Rag which consisted of live footage from their 2021 US Tour and for a couple of seconds (00:45 mark) you can sort of see my left arm. Listen, I fully acknowledge it is so dumb for me to even point it out but somehow it feels… I don’t know… mmmh… important at some very, very small level? All I know is that I am grateful that the girl next to me was able to capture the attention of the band’s film crew while she was headbanging so I could have this tiny moment of perpetual happiness.]

HHN RIP, A Love Story

Original Post Date: 10.28.18

Everything was better this year at Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) — everything! I even found myself saying out loud at one point, “If I died right now, I’d die happy” (you could assume I was in a state of bliss for the 6+ hours we spent at Universal Studios for our yearly Halloween celebration). So, without further ado, I present to you all the things I loved at this year’s HHN. Let’s do this!

hhn20182.jpg
  • Valet parking being closer to the main entrance; I appreciated not having to walk thru Universal City Walk

  • A very diligent Security Attendant going thru my belongings at security check; peace of mind is priceless

  • The speakers at the entrance playing “The Day is My Enemy” by The Prodigy

  • A smooth check-in at the R.I.P. Lounge

  • This year’s introduction to the tour experience right off the bat; no more going straight to dinner by yourself

  • Cara, our Tour Guide; she was the best and explained at the very beginning what our itinerary was going to be about

  • Dinner; the risotto and the pumpkin ravioli were to die for, and so were the decadent fruit tarts

  • Stranger Things Photo op; it almost made me want to watch the series for the first time ever (never have)

  • Universal MONSTERS Maze; my favorite maze of the night featuring all the classic monsters (OMG The Bride!)

  • Holidayz in HELL Scare Zone; my favorite scare zone of the night featuring a very creepy Thanksgiving

  • Terror Tram Hollywood Harry’s Dreadtime Storiez; all the clowns, all of the evil clowns! (LOVE the backlot!)

  • Snack break at a different lounge with a Makeup Artist’s live demoing a Demon makeup

  • Stranger Things Maze inside a Sound Stage (!!!)

  • The First Purge Maze incident; a Scare Actor accidentally hit my hand pretty hard with a prop and was very apologetic immediately after it happened (he/she could have ignored it, but nope, instead broke character to make sure I was okay)

  • Trick ‘r Treat Maze; is there something else to be said about it? It was a freaking “Trick ‘r Treat” maze!

  • Poltergeist Maze; those sexy coffins at the end (I need one, please)

  • Blum House Chapter Two Maze; seriously though, I need to watch “Truth or Dare” like, right now (never have), it looked so good!

  • And last but not least, the group’s trolley (above picture); not having to take the insufferable escalators? Nor having to walk thru the annoying Toxic Tunnel? Universal Studios R.I.P. tour, thank you, thank you so much! #LOVEU

Phew! That was a long list, was it not? Okay, okay, one more thing before I leave: a walkthrough of my favorite maze, enjoy!

Hey girl, it’s me, Marath

I wanted to stop by and officially welcome you to my new website, marathMARATH.com. That’s right, I terminated my relationship with tumblr due to my being unhappy with their update from December 2018 because, unfortunately, my gory horror movie content got blocked for being… too graphic? Surprisingly enough, I have no hard feelings toward the company even though they pretty much forced me out and I had to start over and move all my posts to this my new home. I spent two and a half happy gory years with them while they allowed me to exercise my freedom of speech in their community, but once the freedom left, I had to follow suit.

So yes, this is the same old me but in a nicer new place.

In order to celebrate marathMARATH.com, I would like to share with you some facts about me because life is good and I am grateful to have you here. Ready? Let’s do it!

  • My one true passion is Horror and it keeps me sane and happy

  • I consider Sinister (2012) as one of the greatest horror movies of this decade, and yes, it is my favorite movie as of today

  • I am bilingual (Español/English)

  • I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs

  • I take my coffee with one cream, no sugar

  • I enjoy reading fiction and non-fiction books, but I am super choosy about them

  • I consider the 1818 book "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley as one of the greatest horror novels ever written

  • Anne Rice is currently my favorite author, but my absolutely favorite novel is not hers, it’s Paul Auster’s "In the Country of Last Things"

  • Without music I would die, period.

  • I play bass guitar and classical guitar for fun (I am terrible at both)

  • I have seen Björk live in concert twice which is, let’s face it, a really big deal

  • My favorite place to visit is The Queen Mary in Long Beach, California (above pictures)

  • I value honesty, originality, integrity, kindness, respect, and hard work in all aspects of life, including on social media

  • The one life lesson I have learned in my life is this: If something matters to you, it matters, and it's your responsibility to see it come to fruition (in my case, it's Horror)

-Marath
